COVID-19 and Travel Soccer

Based on updated guidance released by the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association, masks are no longer required for most players while on the field of play. The details of the updated guidelines are a bit complicated, but can be found in the MYSA COVID-19 Protocols available at the link below

https://www.mayouthsoccer.org/assets/61/6/soccer_activities_protocols_may_18,_2021.pdf

In general, the updated guidance is as follows:

  • All players except for our HS Girls PG team are no longer required to wear masks while playing, regardless of vaccination eligibility or status.

  • Players on our Girls PG team who are 18 years old or younger are no longer required to wear masks while playing. Any player on our HS Girls PG team who is 19 or older must still wear a mask while playing, regardless of vaccination eligibility or status.

  • All players at all age levels must continue to wear masks when not playing.

    • As a practical consideration, this is straightforward and easy to implement during games. During practices, players may remain unmasked if the coach briefly stops the practice to make a coaching point provided that the players are socially distanced. If the team is going to be gathered together to discuss a concept, players must put their masks on. If during the course of a practice some players are waiting to play (e.g. as a substitute during a scrimmage), those players must wear masks while on the sidelines. At all times, we expect coaches to err on the side of caution with regard to wearing masks during practices.

  • Coaches are still required to wear masks at all times, regardless of vaccination status.

Travel Soccer Tryouts 2021-2022 Season

Tryouts for the 2021/22 season will be held during the week of June 7th. All children who are interested in playing travel soccer should attend tryouts. If for some reason your child is unable to attend tryouts (e.g. they are injured, they will be out of town, etc...), please let us know so that appropriate accommodations can be made. More information about Travel Soccer tryouts can be found on our webpage at https://www.sharonsoccer.org/travel-soccer/travel-soccer-tryouts

South Shore Soccer League (SSSL)

The Sharon Soccer Association typically forms teams for play in the South Shore Soccer League. Games take place on weekends during the Spring and Fall. The league host teams from towns throughout the South Shore, including:

  • Abington Hanson Rockland

  • Acushnet Holbrook / Avon Stoughton

  • Braintree Marion / Mattapoisett / Rochester Sharon

  • Bridgewater Quincy West Bridgewater

  • Brockton Randolph Weymouth

  • East Bridgewater Raynham Whitman

  • Easton

Teams are sorted from highly competitive to developmental and everywhere in between. Roughly half the games take place at home in Sharon and the other half take place a short 20 and 40 drive from our town. League play is divided by age group and gender with the goal being that every child can play at their competitive level, while having fun, and developing as a soccer player.

The Sharon Soccer Association forms our teams through competitive tryouts. We form as many teams as we can based on number of players that register for tryouts, but not every player is guaranteed a spot on a team. The teams that are formed are expected to play in both the Fall and the Spring season. For more information on tryout, click here.

Parents of all coaching experiences levels are encouraged to volunteer to coach a team. We always need more volunteers to coach. Almost all of our coaches are parents and many never played the sport. Just bringing your enthusiasm, love of the kids, and the game is all a coach needs to succeed. Even if you have never coaches before, the players need you!

Practices time and dates are determined and communicated by the volunteer coach. Practices can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday. The specific travel team game schedule is determined by the South Shore Soccer League and can be found on their website as the season approaches.
