COVID-19 and Travel Soccer
Based on the current COVID guidelines from the State and the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association, Sharon Soccer currently intends to enter travel soccer teams into the South Shore Soccer League for the Spring 2021 season. We will continue to pay very close attention to any updates the impact youth sports, and recognize that much could change before the Spring that could cause us to revisit that decision. Should we come to the conclusion in the future that participating in the Spring travel soccer season is no longer in the best interests of our children and their families, we will let everyone know. In that event, we will make every reasonable effort to offer programming that allows the children of Sharon to play soccer in a fun and safe environment.
South Shore Soccer League (SSSL)
The Sharon Soccer Association typically forms teams for play in the South Shore Soccer League. Games take place on weekends during the Spring and Fall. The league host teams from towns throughout the South Shore, including:
Abington Hanson Rockland
Acushnet Holbrook / Avon Stoughton
Braintree Marion / Mattapoisett / Rochester Sharon
Bridgewater Quincy West Bridgewater
Brockton Randolph Weymouth
East Bridgewater Raynham Whitman
Teams are sorted from highly competitive to developmental and everywhere in between. Roughly half the games take place at home in Sharon and the other half take place a short 20 and 40 drive from our town. League play is divided by age group and gender with the goal being that every child can play at their competitive level, while having fun, and developing as a soccer player.
The Sharon Soccer Association forms our teams through competitive tryouts. We form as many teams as we can based on number of players that register for tryouts, but not every player is guaranteed a spot on a team. The teams that are formed are expected to play in both the Fall and the Spring season. For more information on tryout, click here.
Parents of all coaching experiences levels are encouraged to volunteer to coach a team. We always need more volunteers to coach. Almost all of our coaches are parents and many never played the sport. Just bringing your enthusiasm, love of the kids, and the game is all a coach needs to succeed. Even if you have never coaches before, the players need you!
Practices time and dates are determined and communicated by the volunteer coach. Practices can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday. The specific travel team game schedule is determined by the South Shore Soccer League and can be found on their website as the season approaches.
