COVID-19 and Travel Soccer
Based on current guidance from MYSA and the Town of Sharon, only players or coaches who test positive for COVID are required to follow isolation/quarantine protocols. According to current guidance, no one who is exposed to an individual who tests positive for COVID in an entirely outdoor setting is considered to be in close contact. Any player or coach who tests positive for COVID is required to isolate for 5 days after the positive test or onset of symptoms, and (assuming no symptoms persist following the 5th day), wear a mask when around others for an additional 5 days.
South Shore Soccer League (SSSL)
The Sharon Soccer Association typically forms teams to play in the South Shore Soccer League. Games take place on weekends during the Spring and Fall. The league hosts teams from towns throughout the South Shore, including:
Abington Hanson Rockland
Acushnet Holbrook / Avon Stoughton
Braintree Marion / Mattapoisett / Rochester Sharon
Bridgewater Quincy West Bridgewater
Brockton Randolph Weymouth
East Bridgewater Raynham Whitman
Easton
Teams are sorted from highly competitive to developmental and everywhere in between. Roughly half the games occur at home in Sharon, and the other half take place a short 20- and 40-minute drive from our town. League play is divided by age group and gender, with the goal being that every child can play at their competitive level while having fun and developing as a soccer player.
The Sharon Soccer Association forms our teams through competitive tryouts. We form as many teams as possible based on the number of players that register for tryouts, but not every player is guaranteed a spot on a team. The teams formed are expected to play in the Fall and Spring seasons. For more information on tryouts, click here.
Parents of all coaching experience levels are encouraged to volunteer to coach a team. We always need more volunteers to coach. Almost all of our coaches are parents and many never played the sport. Just bringing your enthusiasm, love of the kids, and the game is all a coach needs to succeed. Even if you have never coached before, the players need you!
Practice times and dates are determined and communicated by the volunteer coach. Practices can be scheduled Monday through Friday evenings. The specific travel team game schedule is determined by the South Shore Soccer League and can be found on their website as the season approaches.
